WhatIWore: I knew when I bought this suitsuit it would be the perfect thing to throw on for running around. It’s been a little cooler lately, so I styled it with booties and a leather jacket. I also pulled the waistband up to my natural waist and sort of tucked the top underneath it. See how I wore it last time here

What I Wore | Lucky

WhatIWore: Here’s what I wore a couple of days ago on St. Patrick’s Day. No green for me, but Felix was decked out and the perfect little accessory. The title for this post works equally well for the calendar date and the real inspiration behind this outfit - old school issues of Lucky magazine. Doesn’t this look like something that could have been in one of those classic issues? It feels weird to call a 5 year old magazine classic, but back when the original founders were still involved, the styling had kind of a weirdly cute odd ball feel. The stylists put together outfits that you wouldn’t think could work, but looked interesting and new. To me it was less about trying to track down an actual item and more how I could look into my closet and put together something similar. So this outfit is an ode to those good old days.

When: March 17, 2015

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Q Scrabble Necklace: Heist Jewelry
White Moto Jacket: MICHAEL Michael Kors (similar)
Dress: Vintage
Bag: Lancel
Booties: L.L. Bean Signature

Where: Out and About

These photos might look a little different to you - we took them in the afternoon as opposed to our normal morning routine. And truth be told, I put this on to go to the grocery. I was so stir crazy and I knew Felix needed to get out of the house that I decided to put myself together and go out! I’m glad I did because later that night I was hit with the nastiest food poisoning in years and spent all of Wednesday in bed. Now I’ve got cabin fever again but not really in the mood to go out on a cloudy chilly day. We’ll have to find some other way to keep busy I guess! Anyway, to me, it doesn’t really matter where you’re going, if you feel like putting on a dress and doing your makeup because it makes you feel better - just do it!

WhatIWore: After a late night return home from Columbus on Tuesday night, I wanted to get a little extra sleep Wednesday morning and go with a comfortable outfit for my day downtown and around campus. I’ve had this black knit maxi for a few years and it’s a great go to dress all year round (see examples HEREHEREHERE & HERE).

When: April 30, 2014

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Cat’s Eyes’
Scarf: J.Crew
Jacket: MICHAEL Michael Kors (a bunch of options here)
Dress: Target (I also like this one)
Shoes: Sole Society (on major sale!)

Where: Business Breakfast, Student Presentations

This white leather jacket has been, by far, my best investment this spring. I wear it all the time and pretty soon I’m going to need to figure out the best way to do some spot cleaning on it, which I guess just goes with the white jacket territory.

Finally! Those flats! I love how they take such a simple outfit and instantly give it a little extra style.

What I Wore | Let's Get Organized

Chic Maternity Style, Cute Maternity Pants, V8909, Lo & Sons, Jessica Quirk, @whatiworeWhatIWore: Most aspects of my life are pretty organized with the exception of a few black holes. Kitchen junk drawer. Guest Bedroom. Cavernous depths of all of my handbags. I know that parenthood is going to require pulling rabbits pacies out of hats diaperbags with one hand without looking, so it’s about time I start getting my carryall bag organized (and I’d like to feel chic while I’m at it…) Here’s what I found (plus a 20% discount offer for you!

When: March 31, 2014

Necklace: Gift
Tank: Liz Lange Maternity
White Leather Jacket: MICHAEL Michael Kors via Nordstrom Rack

My daily routine involves two bags - usually a small or colorful handbag and a larger carryall bag for my laptop, water bottle, teaching gear and computer cords. For a couple years I’ve using a black leather bag without much structure and I bet I could pull a receipt from 2012 out of there. It’s just one big inside section with two small pockets, doesn’t zip and is a general mess.  So I’ve decided to both simplify and upgrade with a new everyday bag from Lo & Sons. I saw good reviews on some of my favorite lifestyle sites, so I browsed the options and went with the T.T. in army green. Part of my thinking was that if this ever became a sort of baby bag, Adam could carry it too and it would match all of his outfits (ha!). I also like the green because truthfully, I just don’t need another black tote bag. Bonus points for lightweight and easily wiped down nylon and style points for leather straps.

But what’s inside is best: there’s a padded pocket for my laptop and I can fit my large Nalgene bottle, a pair of pumps, my drawing supplies and a sketch book inside.  Plus there are two large outside pockets that work for folders (for teaching) or magazines. One of those pockets unzips at the bottom which makes it easy to slide over a rolling carry on for travel.

I’ve been trying it out for the past week to give it a fair review and I seriously love the huge amount of space in such a slim and streamlined looking bag. I also had a little idea planted in the back of my mind that I saw on Pinterest - big bags balance out big baby bumps. We’ll see!

Lo & Sons has generously offered a 20% discount code to WIW readers (enter WHATIWORE1 at checkout until April 30th, cannot be used on sale or combined with other offers).

So one other thing before I go… I’m crazy in love with my new pants that I finished up over the weekend! The pattern was super easy (Vogue V8909, view B) and the project probably took less than 3 hours from start to finish (I skipped pockets and the elastic through all of the casings at the hem and waistline took the majority of the time.) Once again I’m reminded to never say never when it comes to style. In other words, I love you elastic waistband!!!  See more of my maternity outfits here.
