Ways to Wear | Pops of Cobalt

Cobalt, Ways to wear Cobalt

WhatIWore: One of my favorite pops of color in winter (and year round) is cobalt. I only have a few pieces - a giant infinity scarf and a cobalt handbag, but they work beautifully with a lot of different other colors and patterns. Above I’ve pulled some pairings I really like from my archive - stripes, prints, with pale pink and mint green.

Mint and Cobalt Outfit Idea, @whatiworeWhatIWore: In the past few days I’ve been flipping back through my archives for ideas on what to wear this spring. Quite a few of these pieces are packed away for next summer, but I especially liked this look because I love how mint and cobalt pair so nicely together (see the original outfit here or more ways to wear mint here). Most if not all of these pieces are still available (or with very similar substitutions!) all listed below!

Above: Scarf (Target $15), Earrings (Kendra Scott, $52), Tee (Target, $10), Belt (J.Crew $39.50), Mint Jeans (J.Crew Factory, $39.50), Cobalt Handbag (Milly, $355), Nude Pumps (Sam Edelman, $100)

WhatIWore:  Inspired by my Retro Sneaker board, I decided to give the look a try for myself! One key element that made it work for me: Keep it sporty overall. I tried a few different everyday blouses and jackets but they looked disconnected.  It’s also key to go with a fitted pant instead of something baggy, like sweats.  I like a ponte knit pant which is much thicker knit than a workout legging and a little more dressed up. Aim to balance proportions with a longer top or puffy coat!

Why: Goooooood morning! I am in such a wonderful mood this morning. Waking up to the sun always does that for me! Contrary to the common disdain for Mondays, I actually really like them. I’ve always liked getting back to work or school after resting and relaxing over the weekend. Tuesdays… well, Tuesdays are another story.

The next month or so is the hardest for me to get dressed all year. I’m not quite ready to pull out my spring things (it was only 24 degrees on my way to work this morning) but after a couple of warm days, I don’t think I can bring myself to wear a wooly fair isle sweater either.

Although I want to limit my spring shopping, I’m starting to develop more of a list of items to round out what I already have. If I can nab it on sale anytime soon, I think I’ll get that pale flouro yellow sweater I mentioned on Friday and a spring version of my favorite day in, day out booties (L.L. Bean has a very similar style in gray. I just ordered them, so fingers crossed they are just as great as the Rag and Bone booties!)

For now, I’m just falling back onto the brights. Some of you might remember this coat that I debuted last December. I’m a little sad to report I’ve only worn it once since then. It’s a cat hair magnet and although I have the last button ready to sew on stashed in the pocket, I just haven’t gotten there yet. I really do like the color and style and I think I’m being too precious about it (Instead of living downstairs by our back door, it’s tucked away in my regular closet). Then again, I’ll have it forever, so what’s the rush?

Underneath I’m wearing an older Madewell shirt dress with a cardigan and skinny belt plus black tights and booties. Basically switch out the dress and this is what I wear every Tuesday and Thursday to teach.
