WhatIWore: Lately I’ve been inspired to push my limits with what I wear. Not for the sake of being trendy, but because new shapes and silhouettes are resonating with me and I don’t want to be too scared to try them (like this looser peplum style or cropped wide leg jeans or funky sleeves)! One thing I’ve stayed away from for a good portion of my WIW life is anything that doesn’t have a tight waist nipping silhouette. I really like this top and the flares are a nice way to balance out the volume of the bigger peplum. This top is also the perfect vehicle for a funky wood and metal necklace that I want to wear with everything these days.

WhatIWore: This morning I asked Felix ‘What should mommy wear today?” to which he replied “Blue!” and then “Jean!” Ok then! I’ve actually wanted to wear this high waisted bell bottomed pair so I paired it with a dress (worn as a top) and an olive green jacket. Eventually I lost the jacket and traded the jeans for shorts, but this made for a nice spring morning outfit. I love that these embroidered tops and dresses are having a moment, but you could easily replicate this outfit with a tee shirt underneath instead.

When: April 25, 2016

What:
Shades: Target
Dress (as top): hand-me-down
Jacket: Old Navy (similar here)
Jeans: Frame Denim
Scarf: Vintage
Sandals: gift courtesy of Rockport from last summer

Where: Working at the coffee shop, running errands

Although I really dislike the idea of a capsule wardrobe (too limiting for me!) I do like a core closet, or pieces that can be worn with the majority of your other pieces. Two examples for me are great jeans and this olive jacket, like in today’s post. Here are three more ways each that I’ve worn them.

What I Wore on What I Wore

WhatIWore: Remember a couple days ago when I was all excited about the good weather? Well, it’s sunny today but the temps certainly aren’t springlike. I’m glad I haven’t gotten around to storing my sweaters yet! (I’ve been busy sewing up some spring dresses for my trip to Florida in a couple weeks!)

I like the combination of camel tones with denim and how they’re just right as a transition from winter to spring. This is the second time we’ve photographed my vintage cape (first here), and honestly, they’re not easy to wear with a toddler on your hip! Luckily I get out of the house on my own a handful of times each week to work, so that’s what I save things like this for.

When: March 2, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Sweater: J.Crew Factory
Cape: Vintage, mikasasucasa on etsy
Jeans: Frame Denim (a couple sizes left, on sale for $92!!)
Boots: LL Bean Signature

Where: Coffee Shop

In terms of more practical pieces, these jeans were a great investment. They’ve got a nice stretch and the silhouette really makes my legs look long and lean! I also wore them last time I styled this cape.

WhatIWore: Here’s what I wore for a morning stroll to the bagel shop and then a little time at the library with Felix. Normally I have a babysitter on Monday mornings, but she had to take the morning off, so it was just mommy and me time for us! I went with something I knew I could comfortably wear without a coat (it’s been so warm here!) and could walk a mile two and from downtown in. It’s kind of a 70s meets modern hybrid of an outfit. I’ll have to stop myself from just wearing a cream sweater every other day all winter (guilty as charged!)
