What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: After a nice week hanging out in the woods with family, I’m glad to be back to my normal routine. Although not sure Felix got the memo as I was up with him multiple times last night and then before sunrise this morning. ZzZzzz.

I packed very lightly for our trip and wore Adam’s flannel and maternity jeans almost every day. After a week of woodsy attire (see here and here), I wanted to do a 180 and get properly dressed up this morning. This black printed number is one of my maternity favorites. Like last time, I styled it with over the knee boots, but needed an outer layer for warmth. I grabbed this vintage cape (also worn here)  just to see if it would work. I like it!

One trend I wish I could embrace right now are short skirts and matching jackets of the same length. Today’s look is just about as close as I can get for now! J.Crew just put out one such set (this jacket + this skirt!) and it has such an awesome 60s mod vibe. I hope the look continues into spring so I can embrace it after pregnancy! Perhaps I can find a vintage version but if not, I’ll probably stitch one myself?

What I Wore on What I Wore

WhatIWore: Remember a couple days ago when I was all excited about the good weather? Well, it’s sunny today but the temps certainly aren’t springlike. I’m glad I haven’t gotten around to storing my sweaters yet! (I’ve been busy sewing up some spring dresses for my trip to Florida in a couple weeks!)

I like the combination of camel tones with denim and how they’re just right as a transition from winter to spring. This is the second time we’ve photographed my vintage cape (first here), and honestly, they’re not easy to wear with a toddler on your hip! Luckily I get out of the house on my own a handful of times each week to work, so that’s what I save things like this for.

When: March 2, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Sweater: J.Crew Factory
Cape: Vintage, mikasasucasa on etsy
Jeans: Frame Denim (a couple sizes left, on sale for $92!!)
Boots: LL Bean Signature

Where: Coffee Shop

In terms of more practical pieces, these jeans were a great investment. They’ve got a nice stretch and the silhouette really makes my legs look long and lean! I also wore them last time I styled this cape.

What I Wore on What I Wore

WhatIWore: Tell you what guys, I’m feeling so creative and free when getting dressed these days! In most of my outfits these days I aim to do something vintage, something homemade and something I’ve had in my closet but not worn recently. This look is a good example of that! Let’s break it down:

When: February 3, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Cape: mikasasucasa on etsy
Sweater: Self Made (pattern info here)
Jeans: Frame Denim (on sale for $92!!)
Scarf: Vintage
Bag: Souvenir from Hong Kong (10 or so years ago!)
Boots: Frye

Where: All dressed to go work at the coffee shop and then my sitter called in sick, so off to the grocery with Felix instead (but not before getting OOTD pics!)

Alright, so following my little formula, the vintage piece is the camel cape I bought from one of my favorite bloggers/vintage dealers on etsy (link above). It took me a while to figure out proportions that I liked and eventually realized a nice flare cut would balance things out (the jeans were purchased last fall). The self made element is the sweater I knit myself. Finally, the scarf and bag are oldies from when I first started doing outfit photos in 2007. I love pulling together all different kinds of pieces this way. Not too vintagey, not entirely new (although, that is a fun treat once or twice a season) and not things I’ve worn so much I’ve grown tired of them. I did a similar color combo last fall HERE

I was just scanning my really old WIW photos and can’t wait to re-invent some of those outfits in the weeks to come. I’ll link up to those when I can!

WhatIWore: To contrast yesterday post with my bright blue coat and the Pepto pink background, today I’m toning things waaaaay down with neutrals.  I love the sophistication of relatively monotone looks - especially with earthy camels, beiges and cognacs. It feels easy and effortless, which worked for me this morning because I spent the bulk of my time doing my makeup! More on that later this week, but for now I’ll say I’m so into my new brows! It’s amazing what a little makeover can do!
