WhatIWore: Ever have a week when it just takes until Wednesday to get going? I’ve been focused on other things (like my living room makeover and planning for Felix’s birthday) and my outfit photos lately have been duds (tried two different times with one outfit and ended up trashing both sets of photos). But today! Today! I’m feeling it a little more. I just wrapped my Whole 30 and I’m really happy with the results. I’ll do a recap post and some after photos in the next week (hold me to that!).

But let’s talk about this outfit! I knew when I got this sweater that it would have an awesome retro vibe that could be perfect for anything from a 1950s full skirt to a pair of high rise 70s style jeans.  For this look I paired it with my self made waist high flares, a vintage scarf, thrifted boots and a self made hat. Threw in those $12 sale sunglasses too. And I love it! I ditched the hat en route to town and was a little on the fence about the scarf, but ended up keeping it on and even scored a compliment (they do such wonders for your self esteem when you’re taking a risk!) So I felt great!  Definitely hitting the 1970s art teach vibe on this one.

When: August 30, 2017

What:
Hat: Self Made
Shades: Loft
Sweater: ModCloth (on sale!)
Bag: Frye
Jeans: Self Made (pattern notes here)
Boots: Thrifted

Where: Donut Date!

Post Whole30, these jeans even feel a little loose fresh out of the dryer so I might take them in a smidge, but I kind of like the relaxed look too. I’ll be making this pattern up in a new fabric soon and I will definitely give them a closer fit to the body through the thigh.

So anyways! Gotta jet and clean up this house! Photos of the living room coming soon too!

WhatIWore: Dare I say it? Fall is in the air! Yesterday we woke up to a cool 60 degrees and had a beautifully crisp day. Leather skirts have always stumped me a bit in terms of when to wear. For this outfit, I decided sandals and a light weight sweater would be the perfect combo. And I wore this all day… until it got cool enough to put on jeans for a dinner out with my girlfriends.

Both the sweater and skirt are new to WIW (although I thrifted the skirt a few years ago and just held onto it).  Luckily this sweater is back in stock and I can absolutely recommend it! I think I’ll be wearing it a lot this fall and it’ll layer wonderfully under slimmer cut jackets. I could totally see this looking great with my self made shearling jacket and my newly sewn high rise jeans!

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Sweater: ModCloth
Skirt: Thrifted, similar option here
Sandals: gift of Clarks a few years ago, similar here
Conductor Bag: gift of Cambridge Satchel Company

Also! Check out this cute navy bag that I received as a gift from Cambridge Satchel Company. They were one of my first sponsors nine years ago and will be celebrating their tenth anniversary next year. CSC was started by a mom/mum when she couldn’t find the traditional school satchel she wanted for her own children. It’s been cool to see how Julie has grown her company and how she continues to put out new cute styles referencing the past.  This particular bag is modeled after a bus conductor bag in the UK. You can read more about it here (and get 10% off if you sign up for their email list). I’m really grateful they still remember me after all these years and really appreciate sharing this style with me.

WhatIWore: My cousin Annie got married this weekend and it was so lovely! We had such a wonderful time celebrating her and Will and being with so much of our family. I was in such a happy mood this morning driving home after brunch. It’s so invigorating to be around good people. I love my extended family! I wish I saw everyone more!

Here’s what I ended up wearing for the big day. I was tipped off by an instagram friend to this dress and it was… drum roll… under $50. As you can see it’s plenty long on my 5′9″ frame (plus 2″ sandals) and the wrap front made nursing Bea super easy.  For reference I bought a medium. There are a lot of pretty prints available, but I love how this navy floral looks in person! I actually got the taupe short sleeve version too, which was a little shorter and I didn’t have a slip so the navy won out. You can see more photos from the day on my Instagram!

WhatIWore: A new closet space calls for a new look at old favorites. I’ve been slowly retiring and reselling pieces that I don’t think I’ll ever wear again, but this is the kind of dress I’ll probably keep forever. I also feel more confident wearing older (non linked) pieces on the blog, without searching through the depths of the internet for similar options.

I really love this dress - it’s got vintage vibes but it’s a) long enough and b) easy to wash. The lining is built in and it’s nursing friendly. And it makes me feel like a goddess whenever I wear it! I’ve pulled up four older photos in four different ways I’ve styled it from the past (posts are here, here, here & here). Looking back I remember feeling so great each and every way I wore it. Like when you look in the mirror and think to yourself “this is the best outfit I’ve ever worn!!”
