WhatIWore: One of my favorite parts of getting dressed are the many ways to combine each piece in my closet to make new looks. Example - this aqua and cream sweater looked really cute tucked in with high waisted jeans here, but I love how it layers over my suede mini skirt too. And speaking of that skirt - here’s how it looked with a different sweater a few weeks ago.

When: September 22, 2017

Sweater: ModCloth (on sale for $16!!!)

WhatIWore: Ever have a week when it just takes until Wednesday to get going? I’ve been focused on other things (like my living room makeover and planning for Felix’s birthday) and my outfit photos lately have been duds (tried two different times with one outfit and ended up trashing both sets of photos). But today! Today! I’m feeling it a little more. I just wrapped my Whole 30 and I’m really happy with the results. I’ll do a recap post and some after photos in the next week (hold me to that!).

But let’s talk about this outfit! I knew when I got this sweater that it would have an awesome retro vibe that could be perfect for anything from a 1950s full skirt to a pair of high rise 70s style jeans.  For this look I paired it with my self made waist high flares, a vintage scarf, thrifted boots and a self made hat. Threw in those $12 sale sunglasses too. And I love it! I ditched the hat en route to town and was a little on the fence about the scarf, but ended up keeping it on and even scored a compliment (they do such wonders for your self esteem when you’re taking a risk!) So I felt great!  Definitely hitting the 1970s art teach vibe on this one.

When: August 30, 2017

What:
Hat: Self Made
Shades: Loft
Sweater: ModCloth (on sale!)
Bag: Frye
Jeans: Self Made (pattern notes here)
Boots: Thrifted

Where: Donut Date!

Post Whole30, these jeans even feel a little loose fresh out of the dryer so I might take them in a smidge, but I kind of like the relaxed look too. I’ll be making this pattern up in a new fabric soon and I will definitely give them a closer fit to the body through the thigh.

So anyways! Gotta jet and clean up this house! Photos of the living room coming soon too!

WhatIWore: All compliments are good compliments, but my favorite two are “is that vintage?!” and “did you make that?!” In this outfit, yes and no. When Adam was taking photos this morning he told me “You look really… hip! I like your glasses! Is that top vintage?”  The shirt is actually new, but has a vintage looking print (and kind of reminds me of either an old couch/curtains or this dress) and the skirt is an oldie but goodie vintage/thrifted number I’ve had for years (evidence here, here, here & here).  I initially thought I’d style the top untucked with it seems like this blouse and skirt combo were meant to be! Complementary, darling!

When: June 15, 2015

What:
Shades: Andy Warhol Museum, old
Blouse: ModCloth
Skirt: Vintage, similar style (would work with this top!)
Bracelet: Self Made, DIY here
Bag: Lancel
Sandals: Rockport, gift

Where: Grocery and Coffee Shop

When I bought this top, I thought it looked so Jackie O on a boat and I knew right away I’d pair it with these sunglasses, which are named after the first lady and style icon. Right now I’m into BIIIIIGGG shades. The bigger the better!!!

WhatIWore: Did you know it’s been over seven years since I posted my first Daily Outfit photo online? For some reason, I thought the anniversary was on May 22nd, but it was actually the 5th so this week or next I’m going to be putting together a post of my all time favorite outfits.  This skirt is something I’ve had since the beginning and today I was super happy to make it work with my ever changing shape.

When: May 22, 2014

What
Shades: Fred Flare (super old)
Necklace: Gift from Adam
Tee: Target, maternity
Scarf: My mom’s
Skirt: Vintage (get the look here)
Shoes: ShoeDazzle
Bag: Milly (similar)

Where: BBQ, visiting my friend’s new baby

The top button is undone and I folded the waistband down once, although there’s really no chance of it sliding down any further. I thought back mainly to this outfit (on the right, below) as my inspiration point. I tied one of my mom’s scarves around the waist to disguise the skirt McGyvering. I love how fresh the bright aqua looks with cobalt and white (see another example here).

What I love MOST about this outfit is actually how it throws me back to what I lovingly call “old Jessica.” Before comments got snarky and when positive encouragement was flowing online, I tried so many fun new things and felt like I was really finding myself and my personal style (hey! I was 24 years old living in NYC too… a perfect time to break out of your old molds and become the woman you want to be).  I’m hoping that motherhood and pregnancy push me to embrace more of that fearlessness. Nothing like your own flesh and blood to prioritize what is/isn’t important (by this I mean it’s high time I stop caring so much if strangers on the internet approve of my outfits or not!). I saw something on Pinterest that I loved the other day along the lines of - “This isn’t a practice life, it’s your only life” - so why not live it up (even if it’s only with an aqua blue twirly skirt?)
