Summer Maternity Style

WhatIWore: I’m grateful I was pregnant during the summer. I loved wearing knit dresses and layering jackets. I’ve gone through my pregnancy archives and picked out some of my favorite maternity style trends. Pass along to your pregnant girlfriends for ideas!

Knit Maxi with Jean Jacket Pair up a cool and comfy maternity maxi with one of your pre-pregnacy jackets. Above left, right

Basic Black with Accessories I love the simplicity of a basic black knit dress and cute summer accessories. A light weight scarf or straw hat and skinny belt over your bump is an easy way to pull your look together. Above left, right

Printed Maxis None of these dresses were sold as maternity styles, but all worked great for a growing bump. Don’t limit yourself to pieces you can only wear while pregnant! Above top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right

Stripes Conventional fashion advice would tell you that horizontal stripes make you look wider and thus should be avoided. I’ll tell you otherwise. Girl! You’re pregnant and it’s a time to celebrate your expanding waistline! Stripes are a cute summer style and they work well for a pregnant body. Above left, right

Pregnancy Style, Maternity Style, Jessica Quirk, @whatiworeWhatIWore: Now that I’ve shared my happy news, I feel so much more comfortable digging into the maternity pieces I’ve picked up over the past few weeks. Truth be told, my baby bump is still pretty tiny and I feel a little in limbo between looking pregnant and looking like I had a big burrito for lunch.

When: March 11, 2014

Where: Teaching, lunch date

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Northern Lights’
Lips: NARS ‘Scarlet Empress’
Q Scrabble Necklace: Heist Jewelry
Dress: Target
Jacket: MICHAEL Michael Kors via Nordstrom Rack (similar)
Bag: Coach ‘Mini Tanner Legacy’
Shoes: BCBG via DSW

Why: First things first, a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you who messaged/tweeted/emailed me yesterday! I felt so loved and happy reading all of your responses. It reminds me how wonderful it can be to connect online and I’m so grateful to have so much love coming in from near and far. You’re the best!

Now - my first pregnancy style post! I’m in love with this Target maternity dress that was under $30. Hopefully it will work throughout my second and third trimesters and even after I have the baby. I think it looks pretty cute with my new white leather jacket too! More on that coming soon!

I am SO excited to go bare legged today! I actually walked around barefoot in my yard for a while - it got up to 70 degrees! To keep things simple accessory wise, I went with my classic nude heels and a little Q scrabble charm necklace. Seems appropriate with Baby Quirk on the way!

UPDATE: After 70 and sunny on Tuesday, we had sideways snow on Wednesday. In like a lion, out like a lamb! Send us more pretty days, Mother Nature!
