WhatIWore: I haven’t worn this dress in a quite a while - I’m not sure if I’ve ever even taken photos of it before! I got it out when I was digging through my maternity clothes because… I’m pregnant! I thought I’d do some big post to announce but I haven’t really had a bump until this morning! It’s kind of weird how it works in the early days. Flat one morning and then… baby belly the next!

Needless to say, we are thrilled about this pregnancy and adding to our family. The early days were so rough on me. Much more difficult than my pregnancy with Felix. My immune system is really down so I’ve been getting sick with other things on top of the morning sickness, which some of you have probably guessed by my lack of summertime posts! But feeling great today and very excited to go public with our pregnancy. It’s so strange to keep such a big secret for so long!

We’ll meet baby Q number two in the new year. Maybe even a New Year’s baby! First baby of 2017?! Who knows! We will also find out the gender of the baby this time around in a few weeks. Excited about that too - either a baby girl which would be awesome or a little brother for Felix - equally wonderful! I have a gut feeling, but you never know!

When: July 28, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Dress: BOOB (it’s actually made to be nursing friendly! Similar tank and top)
Bag: Brit Stitch, older style
Sandals: gift of Clark’s, from last summer

Where: Coffee Shop, Running Errands

As for maternity clothes, I’m so excited to be pregnant for the fall and winter, so I think I’ll have a better attitude about getting dressed (see my summer maternity outfits here). I think I can still get use of our some of my regular clothes for a while too, plus I have all of my boots and jackets to look forward to wearing.

WhatIWore: Greetings from a chilly Indiana morning! Like a lot of the country, we woke up to cooler than normal summer temperatures and this expectant mama is not complaining! I’m excited in fact! Because I’ve got a little less to work with wardrobe wise, I appreciate the chance to layer and change things up a little bit. Here’s how I wore this dress the first time around

When: July 15, 2014

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Northern Lights’
Lipstick: Ilya in Wild Child
Dress: ASOS Maternity (on sale!)
Jacket: Anthropologie
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (similar)
Shoes: Sole Society

Where: Breakfast/Work at my favorite lil spot

This was one of the first maternity dresses I bought and wore on a trip to San Francisco in March. I was quietly sharing my news but hadn’t made any online announcements yet and in hindsight, I totally did not need a maternity style. That said, I don’t regret going for this dress because it still works 20 weeks later!

I bought a similar style of dress in a nursing friendly cut for fall, but I might keep this number around in the future even when I’m not pregnant! That said, I’m eager to shop for fall clothes and get back into my normal jeans! I’ve been saving up all summer and I can’t wait to do a little shopping spree after baby is born and I’m feeling up to it!

In other random news, I am wildly, over the moon happy today. I don’t have a good reason why, but I suspect it’s because yesterday I challenged myself to go 24 hours without complaining. My pregnancy hasn’t been textbook easy and lately I’ve been whining every time I got kicked in the ribs or feeling slightly blah. Yesterday, every time Adam asked me how I was doing, I smiled and said great, even if I was only feeling 50% good. And voila! I’m off to a great start today. I’m going to try to extend this attitude another 48 hours and maybe longer! Wanna try it with me?

WhatIWore: I'm juuuuust on the edge of being able to wear this dress (Saturday starts my third trimester, so I thought I’d at least give it one more shot before it gets packed away for later this year or next summer. Even though it’s a cheapie from Target, it’s still one of my favorites and looks pretty cute year round (see how I wore it during a cold spell this winter and at the lake last summer). And these dangly turquoise earrings…

When: June 5, 2014

What:
Shades: Cactus Flower
Earrings: NYC street vendor
Dress: Target (last year)
Sandals: TOMS
Bag: JW Hulme

Where: Working at Soma (a local coffee shop) for the morning

…I know once baby makes his/her debut I won’t be wearing much jewelry at all (don’t babies just love to grab and pull?!) so I hope to get some more wear out of them this summer. I’ve had them for a long time - since my summer internship at Betsey Johnson in 2004 actually! A street vendor find that happens to be one of my longest lasting-still-loving-it purchases. I’ve really been into things from the past lately - jewelry or handbags or dresses that I wore back in my NYC days (believe it or not, I wore MORE color back then!)

What I Wore | Anchors Away

Stripes, Maternity Oufit, Pregnancy Style, 23 Weeks, White Maternity Jeans, @whatiwore

WhatIWore: I write this post from my office on campus, and I can’t help but get a little sentimental as the semester wraps up. Last night we ran a few errands, but opted to take snake through the neighborhoods near campus and finally drove down Jordan Avenue, past my old sorority house. I wouldn’t trade today for yesterday, but it really is fun to look back. I’ve really enjoyed teaching and spending time with students and I hope to be back into a classroom in the near future!

This outfit is only slightly inspired by my college days, but there’s definitely a tie in. I’m a Delta Gamma and the anchor is our symbol. There’s a real US navy anchor (permanently on loan) in the front yard of our house on campus and I’ve been rocking my little signature anchor necklace for over five years.

The other thing that pulled this outfit together was an abundance of clean laundry, including my striped Breton tee. There’s no disguising my bump these days (and I was never really one to hide it in the first place), but my regular tops are starting to retire into bins for next summer. Either they don’t fit my chest, my belly or are too short at this point. I’m kind of freaking out now that my options are getting seriously limited, but I have those flowing hippie dresses and a mass of navy, black and striped knits to keep me going (see more of my maternity style here) . I’m just going to do my best with accessories and remind myself that getting dressed isn’t a contest (although sometimes it totally feels like it when you write a fashion blog. Ugh).

Today I feel pretty great though, so I’m just going to run with it! Have a great week!
