What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: Happy Monday morning, everyone! Here’s to hoping this week is off to a better start than last. I’ll be honest, I took the election results hard. I won’t get into it (at least not now…) except to say I sobbed in public on Thursday morning to my dad on the phone and on Saturday he drove six hours round trip to give me a hug.

That morning the sun was shining, so Adam and I decided to try make it a fun day starting out with pancakes out at one of our favorite breakfast spots. This is what I wore! I also went to our big homemade Holiday market (solo!!!) and picked up some Christmas goodies for Felix and pretty prints for the walls of the nursery. I kept my outfit simple - I wear versions of this combo all the time (see here and here). It ended up being a really nice day. It was so great to get the surprise visit from my dad and spend a lot of time with my boys.

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: For the past few days I’ve been digging around through my archives to find examples of how I’ve worn one piece multiple ways. In the process, it gave me some new ideas too! Or at least, old ideas to dust off and try out again with a baby bump! Today’s look came from this oldie but goodie. It was my first type to style this investment blazer from Theory and I also wore it with polka dots.

The main difference in my eye is how I buttoned up this maternity blouse (a gift from Séraphine, cheers!) under the blazer (and maternity jeans, obviously!) As a tangent - have any of you seen Mr. Robot? It’s one of the best shows on TV (season two just ended) and the buttoned up plus blazer look reminds me of Angela’s styling in season two. All business, right? Well, the cuffed jeans and spike necklace definitely take me into casual territory, but it’s a bit of a different look for me and I like it. You never know until you try!

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: A couple weeks ago, Felix was off to his grandparents house early in the day, so I had some time to kill before Adam and I took a weekend trip to Michigan the following morning. So I thought to myself - why not make a new fall jacket? I have a hunch shearling is going to be popular soon and armed with a 60% off coupon, I hit up the fabric store (I used faux fabric, which was really easy to stitch). The other thing that had me motivated to make something quick is the new season of Project Runway. Every year I consider filling out the 17 page application and trying out, but I fear I can’t sew fast enough or that my pattern making skills aren’t there (in truth, when I’m doing a quick project like this, I prefer to use a pattern, in this case, Burda 6800

I finished the body by the end of the day, but it took me a week to fully complete the jacket. I did the final steps during nap time or with a “helper” (code for Felix sits next to me and I barely get anything done). All in all, I really like how it turned out!!  I omitted facings because the fabric is meant to look good on both sides. I also skipped a closure or any buckles or snaps, which I will definitely use the next time I sew this particular pattern with a less bulky fabric. But hey! It’s done, it’s wearable and it actually feels like fall outside! Win win win!

When: September 27, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’ in crazy tort
Necklace: Madewell
Jacket: Self Made (altered from Burda 6800 base)
Sweater: Self Made (similar here and here)
Jeans: Jeans: AG ‘Stilt’, (non maternity here)
Boots: UGG (similar options here and here)
Bag: Frye (similar color/style)

Where: Coffee Shop

Underneath the faux shearling jacket, I’m wearing another homemade goodie - a Breton striped sweater I knit last year. Here’s the recap post and pattern info or see all of my knitting projects here. The rest of the outfit is pretty simple - my favorite pair of maternity jeans (regular sizes here) with some UGG boots and a Frye bag I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale last year. This outfit makes me wish I had a Yellowstone/Jackson Hole vacation in the works!

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: I still have a few hold outs from my non maternity wardrobe that are still wearable, but as this belly gets bigger by the day, I’m having to pack things up or set them aside. I’m glad I got to wear this top one last time. it’s not quite a tunic, but the longer length worked well enough over full panel pants. Here’s how I styled it last fall at my normal size for a comparison.

When: September 6, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Blouse: ModCloth (similar in solid here)
Jeans: Jessica Simpson (similar regular sizes here)
Tote Bag: J.Crew
Booties: Rag and Bone

Where: Coffee Shop and Errands

My jeans are new (maternity) as is my handbag! I knew I’d let myself get a new one this fall (No size fluctuation to worry about!) and because I have black and brown covered, decided this pretty burgundy shade would be a good choice. It’s also nice and roomy so I plan on using it for toting around baby stuff in January. We do have a diaper bag, but I hardly ever use it. I just toss a diaper and some wipes in my purse and we’re covered! I know a smaller baby will need a few more things, but our outings are generally short and we live in such a small town that we’re always 10 minutes from home should we have the need to get here fast!

SALE ALERT Today is the last day for 25% off designer denim at Destination Maternity. I’ve purchased four pair there and my favorites are the AG stilt which is over $50 off!
