WhatIWore: These photos really capture October to me. Not the warm, bright blue skies contrasting the red and orange leaves, but the gloomy and damp days that tell us winter is getting closer. I’ve been inspired lately by all of the English woolen tweeds I’ve seen in magazines and glad I bought this one in my normal size last year when I was pregnant with Bea (worn here and here). Today I layered it over a vest and pale chambray top and flared dark denim. Very Annie Hall in a way - especially with the hat!

When: October 11, 2017

Hat: Self Made (similar
Sunglasses: LOFT
Blazer: J.Crew (kinda similar)

WhatIWore: Lately I’ve been feeling a more casual, bohemian kind of vibe. Not so much like the festival going music lover as much as the mature woman who shops at farmer’s markets and likes gardening. Where the hell do I get this stuff? Anyways, I often think about who I want to be and how to dress the part like life was a play and I’m wearing costumes. Maybe anything to avoid being myself. I don’t know?

Wait wait… stay with me! So it’s no secret that I’ve been feeling uncomfortable with my body lately. I’m so heavy chested that I feel I can’t wear the styles I’m drawn to. Until last weekend when I just threw my figurative hands in the air and said EFF IT! (the actual curse words) and put on what I wanted to wear, regardless of whether it was “flattering” or not.

I really really hate the use of the word flattering. Or more specifically not flattering. It’s become a socially acceptable way of saying “you don’t look as good as you could” or “you don’t look good” or what I really think it’s code for is “You don’t look thin” and I hate it.

When I put this on and looked in the mirror, flattering (read: thin) was not what I got. But I decided to wear it anyway and then Adam took these photos and ya know, it’s not as unflattering as I thought either. It’s fine!

So I’m just gonna get over myself and my huge boobs and for the love of all things good (and my self esteem), it’s about effing time that I stop myself from not wearing things that some random internet stranger is going to not only think are not flattering” let alone say it outloud. #runonsentence #endrant #somanyitalics

Phew. I just needed to get that out. Onwards!

WhatIWore: Greetings from sunny Southern Indiana. I can’t believe it, but we all slept in until 7:45 this morning when the sun shining through our windows finally woke us up. That just might be a record! So needless to say, we’re all in good moods and currently hanging out on the front porch while I type up this post.

When: June 6, 2017

What:
Hat: Self Made
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper
Blouse: Vintage, thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Pants: Target
Sandals: Birkenstock

Where: So far just chillen with my kids on the porch (probably Goodwill and craft store later!)

I don’t know if it’s the summertime, the country air, the inspiration of a new house or just spending so much good time with my children, but I have been happier lately than I have in a very long time. I’ve also made a huge shift in the way I see this blog (a money making occupation vs. a fun way to share the thing I love) and that’s been so freeing.

Take this outfit for example - something homemade (my hat), something fancy (my designer sunglasses), something vintage/thrifted (blouse and belt) with something from Target. These are the kinds of outfits that used to excite me so much, and I’m really really happy to wear more of them!

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: This spring, I will hit ten years of taking daily outfit photos. It’s kind of crazy to wrap my head around! It’s my longest continuous hobby, job, relationship (!?!? I’ve known some of you guys that long, right?) It’s kind of a big deal to do something for almost 1/3 of your life! Anyway, I was thinking about how my personal style has changed and evolved during that time. In the early days I leaned heavily onto wearing bright colors, especially when I was feeling a little sad and needed a sartorial pick me up.

Now seems like a good time to bring out the brights then, doesn’t it?! My scarf and hat combo are a new addition to my (admittedly wide) rotation of winter goodies (Old Navy is also today’s post sponsor! Thanks guys!) They’ve got a ton of cute colorful hats, scarves and sweaters out right now and I picked up both of these on sale. The scarf is a double knit - something I’ve always wanted to try making myself (and perhaps will take a swing at later this season) and the hat has the chunky quality I’m really drawn to this season. And this particular shade of periwinkle is one of the most universally flattering colors out there.

I went simple with the rest of my outfit… jeans, a tee and a fleece jacket in a modern cut. It was in the 30s this morning but I’ll warm up enough this afternoon that I’ll probably shed the layers.
