WhatIWore: Here’s what I wore for our last day in Florida. I made the top last year but this year updated the sleeves with some teeny tiny pom pom trim. It seems like tassels and poms are all the rage, so I actually bought a bunch and have plans to sew them to different pieces in my closet to get them a fresh look. I recently saw a similar sewing pattern from McCall and there are similar versions all over (see ‘Shop the Look’ below)

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Blouse: Self Made (similar styles here)
Belt: Vintage (similar vintage styles here)
3.5″ Black Shorts: Old Navy
Sandals: Rockport

Where: Anna Maria Island, FL

A white eyelet top can go with almost any kind of bottom, but I went with black shorts so I could show off this vintage colorful belt. I’m really glad I packed it - especially after I went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Dalí museum in St. Pete! I am so inspired by her (I’ve dressed up as her here and here) and I’ve enjoyed reading some of her letters with photographer and lover Nick Muray) in a book I picked up in the gift shop. That  In fact - if anyone has read a good biography of her life and wants to recommend a title - please let me know!

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: I have been living in jean shorts this summer - paired with either a tee shirt or a white eyelet or peasant style top. Add in a hat and sandals and you’ve got a recipe for a really easy outfit. What’s your summer uniform?

When: July 25, 2016

What:
Hat: Self Made
Blouse: Self Made (read more about how I made it here)
Shorts: J.Crew (similar here and here)
Sandals: gift of Clark’s from last summer

Where: Hanging with my lil dude and later for a little mommy/son date

On a random note, Felix hasn’t wanted to be held in photos lately so today when he jumped into my arms I was so excited to get us together! #framers

WhatIWore: This morning was weird - it’s the first time I’ve woken up on a weekday without Felix in the house. He’s been with his grandparents since Friday so Adam and I could make progress on the finishing steps of our little home update (and I miss him so so so so much!) For me that was the tedious work of filling holes, sanding them, caulking, taping, priming and painting. I’m really excited how it looks though - and I can’t wait to take some blog pics when it’s all said and done.

When: April 4, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Top: American Eagle
Jean Jacket: Anthropologie (similar)
Olive Chinos: Banana Republic (40% off with code SPRINGFUN)
Sandals: Adrienne Vittadini, old

Where: Coffee Shopping

Needless to say, outfit photos have not been high priority but today I wanted to use the morning to get back to work so this is what I’m wearing! I seem to keep reaching for a denim jacket - probably because they work so well with everything else in my closet. On bottom I have a new pair of chinos on - a pair that will work well with heeled sandals like today and later with flats at the playground. Now that Felix is really romping around over there I need to be sure I’m wear things that work to play with him! And on top I’ve got on a pretty ivory eyelet top that I pulled out of my spring/summer bins (also worn here and here). I like mixing soft feminine pieces like this with more utilitarian styles like the jacket and pants.

WhatIWore: I’m having one of those mornings where I already feel a little behind even though it’s still pretty early. Adam and I left the house at 6am to get to a doctor’s appointment near Indy, stopped for donuts on the way home and now I’m sitting at my favorite spot to edit the photos we just took and get my day going.

I was on the fence about keeping this dress, a maternity style from ASOS, but I’m glad I did. It’s light and cool and airy and bright and I can’t help but getting the tune to Edelweiss in my head as I wear it. I skipped any belt to give an illusion of a little more length (because boy oh boy, do I feel wide these days!) and paired it with some of my favorite accessories.

Although I haven’t been wearing a lot of jewelry these days, I found this charm bracelet I made a few years ago in a forgotten pocket of a handbag and have been wearing it a lot since. I talk a lot on the blog about old Jessica, or at least the styles I associate with being in my mid-late 20s and living in Brooklyn. This piece doesn’t date back that far (I made it the first spring I was back in Bloomington) but I do like how it’s still a little nostalgic for me.  Adam and I were in our first year of marriage, in a new place and planning our new life together. I like wearing pieces like this because sadly my fingers and joints have expanded to the point where I had to remove my wedding band. Better to take it off now than to have them cut it off later! Oh well! I love the symbolism and still instinctively go to touch it about 1000 times a day but I feel more married and in love now than ever. Plus I have a tan line in it’s place. ;)
