Day Out with Thomas, Thomas the Train

Driving down the highway into southern Indiana, I said to Adam “this is one of the first times we’ve done something just for the kids.” So many of the things we do as a family are things we did before we had children - gatherings with friends and hiking and picnics and stuff where little ones just tag along.  Like many kids his age, Felix is obsessed with Thomas and friends, and I don’t say the word lightly (remember when I made him a Thomas costume for Halloween last year?) So on Saturday morning, we journeyed down to French Lick, Indiana for a Day Out with Thomas. It’s like a little pop up play land with a train ride, story time, bounce houses, bubble stations and photos with the sorta-kinda-creepy Sir Topham Hatt.

I had no idea that Adam and I would have such a good time too. It was so much fun!! My cheeks hurt from all the smiling and my heart exploding watching little Felix, who is becoming such a big boy by the day, rest his head on the sill while looking out the window. Even if we didn’t have photos (and I’m so glad we do!), I don’t think I’d ever forget it. Bea Bea loved it too! What a wonderful day!!

What We Wore | Wedding Edition

WhatIWore: Over the weekend Adam and I got out of the house for a whole eight hours without the kids to celebrate our friends’ wedding in Indy. I wore my go-to wedding guest dress - a midi length navy number that’s in a stretch fabric and layered over a lace camisole for a little extra coverage. This has been a great dress for me. I first wore it about a year after Felix was born for our fifth wedding anniversary trip to Nashville. When I look at those photos I have hope that I’ll get my pre-baby bod back one of these days! Damn girl! The second time I wore it (and also to a wedding) I had just announced my pregnancy with Bea and I think it looks equally cute there! So if anything, this dress proves the case that a pretty stretch fabric goes a long way to accommodate before, during and after pregnancy! That’s my favorite kind of dress!

Six and Two

This holiday weekend is a good one for our family. Felix was born the Sunday of Labor Day weekend two years ago, and Adam and I were married six years ago today! I can’t believe it’s been that long! Or maybe that it’s gone that fast? Time definitely moves at a quicker pace when there are babies involved!

People sometimes say that the day you’re married or when your children are born are the best days in your life. The wedding was great but the little moments between now and then have been so much better. And with a baby? The actual birthday is surely exciting, but nothing compared to the little boy I get to spend my days with now. And make no mistakes- both raising a child and sustaining a strong marriage take a lot of work - it’s not all sunshine and roses. But when it’s good, it’s great. I’m so lucky to have these two guys in my life -  they’re truly the best!

Happy Anniversary, Adam! Happy belated Birthday Felix! I love you both!
