What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: Guys. I’m on my 25th try at writing something for this post and just giving up at this point. My heart is not really into it now, but we’ve all gotta get up and out of bed and get dressed, right? So I’m going to talk about my outfit, which I actually really like, instead of addressing the current state of our union, which is more like an episode of Black Mirror than I ever imagined possible. I won’t ignore that things are really screwed up right now, but I’m working on my stress levels for my health and that of my daughter. Phew!

Ok! Let’s start with something easy - the weather! Thank goodness for clear blue skies and crisp mornings! It’s actually starting to feel like it’s the right time to bring out the warmer winter gear and I love that! I was at Old Navy yesterday for a separate project when I saw this hat and jacket (both 50% off in store) and turtleneck, which is long enough to easily cover my belly (and under $20). I’ve been pinning a lot similar outfits lately, and it all came together quite easily this morning. I think one of the things that has made me more confident in wearing maternity clothes has been wearing trend forward accessories, jackets and non maternity tops when they work. In short - I just feel like myself. Way more than I did with my first pregnancy. I don’t feel dumpy like I did last time (and truthfully, fall is much more fun to get dressed than the height of summer heat!)

WhatIWore: As I mentioned yesterday, we’re doing our annual family trip to the woods soon and in preparation I picked up a few new things for Felix from Old Navy (today’s post sponsor!) He’s pretty well set with long pants and boots for the season (his cargo pants were a birthday gift from Nana and we got the boots about a month ago (which he also wore here), but he needed a few warmer pieces to round things out. When I saw this buffalo plaid vest, I loved it, but my practical momsense had me wondering - would he actually wear it? Without a fight?

So I asked him! Do you like this vest? Would you wear this sweater? To my surprise, he gave me a very clear ‘yes’ at the store and getting him dressed in these pieces went equally as smooth!

We also got a few long sleeved tees with a woodland theme (this raccoon one and this wild one) along with a licensed IU tee because we have homecoming this weekend. (Felix is newly obsessed with spotting the IU logo and yelling IU! IU! at the top of his lungs. Adorable.) I picked up a knit hat too, but he was all ‘no no no’ when I tried getting it on this morning. Maybe when it’s chilly enough, he’ll give in!

I should also fess up that had some ulterior motives with these photos…. along the lines of our family Christmas card! Adam is such a talented photographer, which means he’s usually not in the photos, but Felix makes for a handsome little family ambassador, right? These pictures capture his spunky and mischievous personality so well. Plus with less than three months before baby girl arrives, I’m taking care of anything I can, while I can. Also, never got around to Holiday cards last year, so I feel like I’m ahead of the game now. And yes… he’s clutching onto a box of Tic Tacs for dear life. A handy example of my parenting “whatever it takes” philosophy.

Today’s post has been sponsored by our long time partners at Old Navy (including a gift card we used to purchase these pieces). From now until October 16, use code THANKYOU to save 30% off your order!

What I Wore on Instagram

Yesterday we took a Sunday morning drive to one of my favorite spots in Southern Indiana - Spring Mill State Park. We often do trail walks in nearby state forests and parks, but this spot is my favorite because of the pioneer village! I really owe this topic a full post (and photos) of it’s own, because as a child I was really obsessed with history, especially the 1800s. Lately Adam and I have been walking episodes of Victorian Farm and Edwardian Farm on YouTube like total nerds and it makes me want to sign up to do a year on a living historical farm. I’m not joking!

Felix just had his two year old well check and I’m not surprised that he’s over three feet tall and in the 95 percentile for height… and already wearing 3T! Or should I say… he’s grown out of his 2T pants. He’s a little in between, but the bigger size works with his cloth diapers well and I anticipate he’ll fit into his larger sizes perfectly before we know it.

Speaking of kids clothes, I recently picked up his long sleeve striped tee shirt ($4) and shoes ($22) on sale at Old Navy, our longtime blog sponsors. (The jeans are also from Old Navy ($12) as a birthday gift from Nana) I have a lot of fun picking out Felix’s clothes and I really love getting them on sale when I know he won’t be able to wear them forever (mama sad face… stop growing up so fast!) In fact, I hardly ever buy something for him that’s not on sale!

Attention Moms (and dads, grandmas, aunts and moms-to-be!): mark your calendars - the Old Navy Baby and Kids Sale starts on Thursday (9/15) and runs for a week. I might even pop back in to pick up some snuggly pieces for baby girl. I keep telling myself I must clean out the craft room (soon to be nursery) before I can buy anything girlie!!

For those of you who have asked, my shirt is new and also from Old Navy!

Special thanks to Old Navy for sponsoring this post, including the gift card I used to purchase these clothes for Felix.

WhatIWore: Firstly - THANK YOU! for all of the nice notes and comments and email from our happy news last week. It was a fun day for me to read through all of them!

As I mentioned in my last post, I am determined to have a better attitude about clothes with this pregnancy. For me that’s going to include a little more shopping (I was pregnant in the opposite season last time!) and buying things that I like now and wearing them now instead of buying and saving as I often do at my regular size.

Take these jeans for example (from my long time partners at Old Navy)! The boyfriend cut (non maternity, but in a size up) works for my fluctuating belly (big and round one day or looking semi flat but like I ate too many donuts the next!)  And even though I just said, “buy now/wear now” I know they’ll be so comfy postpartum too! I really like is the patchwork effect and ripped bits as well. I know I’ll eventually need to find some maternity jeans I like (open to recommendations!) but for now, I’m really happy this style works!

Speaking of denim, Old Navy has a lot of cute styles I wish fit my growing waistline like these high rise flares or mid-rise skinnies. Oh well! Next spring!

And surprise surprise - another sweet white lacy top that has a bohemian vibe. I like what I like! I also grabbed this scarf, which is the right weight for a cool air conditioned room in summertime or for an early fall morning.

When: July 30, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Scarf: Old Navy via gift card (same available in stores, similar here)
Blouse: Old Navy via gift card
Boyfriend Jeans: Old Navy via gift card
