WhatIWore: Ever have those mornings where you’re having fun getting dressed for the first couple outfit changes and then you’re like to hell with it! I just need to get out the door! This is what that looks like on me. I kept going back and forth between jeans and tights and layering over my turtleneck and finally I ran back upstairs and threw this on. Trusty olive green jacket to the rescue!

When: February 1, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Turtleneck: J.Crew
Jacket: Old Navy (old, similar above)
Backpack: Vera Bradley, gift
Skirt: Old Navy
Tights: We Love Colors
Booties: Rag + Bone

Where: Coffee Shop, Around the house (minus jacket + house slippers)

As my body adjusts to not breastfeeding anymore, my clothes are feeling a little snug, especially jeans! Around the house I find it’s way more comfy to live in tights and a skirt (weird, but not weird?) or pajama pants (my usual lazy time option).

WhatIWore: It’s only been a few days since I pushed post on my big rant on fashion blogging, but I can tell you that something has changed. It was like a huge weight I just needed to get off my shoulders to move forward - and it worked! It sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat with feeling like we’re over the current state of the blog world. Your comments, emails and notes reminded me of why I blog in the first place and if it’s possible to feel the bonds of friendship, even with strangers online, I felt them. Trust me, I was bracing myself for a shit storm, so a million times over thank you

Now, let’s talk about this get up!

When: January 25, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Northern Lights’
Sweater: J.Crew
Black Moto Jacket: MICHAEL Michael Kors (this similar number has awesome reviews and is a good price)
Skirt: Self Made
Tights: We Love Colors
Booties: Rag + Bone

I used to be the queen of colored tights (according to me, in my own world, population: 1) but I haven’t worn them very much lately. This deep garnet/maroon shade is a good gateway. Dark but not too flashy like you’d get with brighter or lighter colors (see me wear pink, yellow and purple).

The skirt and jacket combo is a repeat from the good old days and i like how it looks now too! When I wore it back then I said it was a nod to my former style too, so I guess I’m on the right track!

I also had my hair cut and colored last week because I’m aiming to go back to a brighter blonde but gradually. It sometimes take a trip to the dark side to realize that I have more fun as a goodie locks. And seeing my son’s beautiful light hair makes me with I was his color. Maybe by summer I’ll get there. Slow and steady!

Karen Walker Super Duper in Black

WhatIWore: Ahhhh! Finally a sunny morning! I decided to make the most of it by doing a skirt instead of the jeans I’ve been wearing a lot of lately. Now that I’m only working out of the home three days a week I don’t dress up as much and that’s a shame!

Ever since I got these berry colored booties I’ve wanted to pair them with (almost) matching tights. The colors aren’t exactly the same, but I think it’s close enough. I topped it off with one of my favorite hand knit hats (pattern available here) and went simple in the middle. This is the kind of outfit that makes me feel really confident and cool. I wish I could say I have the best self esteem without whatever I’m wearing, but it really does give me the extra push some days. Do what you gotta do, right?

When: December 3, 2015

What:
Hat: Self Made (knitting pattern available here!)
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Lipstick: Tom Ford ‘Black Dahila’
Turtleneck: J.Crew Factory
Moto Jacket: MICHAEL Michael Kors, older style
Backpack: Vera Bradley, gift
Skirt: Old Navy
Tights: We Love Colors
Booties: Rockport Seven to 7 Ally High Bootie, gift (all WIW readers can get 20% by clicking through)

WhatIWore: People! It’s tights weather!!! I knew when I wore this jacket and dress together that I’d definitely pair them up with black tights and booties when the time was right. Today is that day!

Now that I’ve got much darker hair I feel a little… intimidating? Edgy? Two vigourous shampoos later (one with baking soda to try to pull out more color) and I still feel a little like I’m wearing someone else’s hair. Like I need to be wearing brass knuckles or something?! I just don’t feel like I look… sweet? To counter that, bring on the pale pink and ruffles! I also feel like the black legs balance out the very dark brown hair a tad too. The good news is that a) it’s just hair and b) it’s a fun challenge to work with something different for a while. It is, however, the last time I will go this dark (and it was only one shade darker than I normally go!!)

When: October 4, 2015

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Pink Printed Ruffle Dress: Banana Republic (now on sale)
Jacket: Banana Republic
Ring: Old Navy, via gift card
Tights: We Love Colors
Booties: Rag + Bone

Since we’re in tights season… here’s a tip: Look on the package for ‘denier’ and try to find the highest possible number (I usually aim for 80, sometimes you can find 120). Also consider going a size up if up want really dark, opaque looking tights. I routinely by the L/XL for my height as well. I also know some gals swear by fleece lined tights for warmth and opacity!
