What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: Good (foggy!) morning to you! It sure feels like October when you wake up to a day like this. I didn’t realize how chilly it was outside when I picked out this outfit, but luckily it’s the kind of day that warms up perfectly by noon. I hope?

When I pulled this dress out of the package, I thought whoa! that’s short! But upon trying it on, I think it might be my favorite maternity dress yet! It’s kind of crazy to say something meant to accommodate a growing belly could be so slimming, but this frock somehow does it! Nice!

It’s from a British company, Séraphine (a gift! cheers guys!) that I hadn’t heard of until I asked you all for recommendations on shops you liked for your own maternity clothes. I don’t have a lot of pieces from the UK, but when I wear them, I try to channel a style icon from across the pond. So in thinking what to pair with this, I thought what would Alexa Chung wear?! Over the knee boots? Ok! I like how there’s only a small amount of skin showing between the top of the boot and the hem, which keeps it from looking too young or sexy. Just a cute outfit to start the week!

When: October 3, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker
Bag: Coach (older style, similar here)
Dress: gift of Séraphine
Boots: Halogen from Nordstrom

Where: Coffee Shop

This outfit also kind of reminds me of what I wore years ago back when I was a single girl in Brooklyn and really getting into taking daily outfit photos. I mean, way way back. As in.. 947 pages back into my blog (from 2008!)

WhatIWore: You’ve heard people calling women basic, right? Like women that enjoy the onset of fall or pumpkin spiced lattes or watching The Bachelor? By those terms, I am soooo basic, but you know what? I’m fine with that! I’ve got my act together, I get out the door each day looking like a functioning human, I don’t pretend to do or have it all, but I have plenty and I’m happy with my life!

I bring this up because the components of this outfit are absolutely basic (or part of a core closet) - an olive green jacket, a long sleeved off white tee and a pair of jeans. We all have those in our closets, right? To take these basics from good to better, I’ve opted for my over the knee boots, a long geometric necklace, fun bag plus silk scarf tied on the handle. Speaking of scarves, they’re a lovely way to add a splash of color or pattern to an outfit, and done correctly, look great tied around the neck or wrist. I’m not sure I’ve mastered that yet, but tying one onto the handle of a handbag is a no brainer. It’s a cute way to update a purse you’ve been carrying for a while and a good vehicle for fall colors (if it’s still too hot to break out the boots where you live!)

My favorites are all vintage numbers and if you have a second hand or thrift store nearby, should be easy to find. Here are a couple of ways I’ve worn this kind of silk scarf in the past (on the wrist, as a neck scarf)

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: Here’s what I wore today to my 24 week checkup at the doctor’s office. I like wearing shoes that can come off quickly (no bare feet on the scales) and I also plan to wear roughly the same thing each time to get an accurate track on weight gain. For me that’s been a tube skirt hiked up over the bump and a tee shirt. I wore the jacket to pull things together.

I didn’t plan it this way, but everything I’m wearing here I got at Old Navy at different times. I’ve been wearing the olive green jacket forever (years!!) and ditto for a basic black v-neck tee. The skirt is regular sizing, so it’s a good wear now, wear later type item (and in a soft knit - it’s very comfortable!) Also! Don’t forget their Kids and Baby sale starts today!

This is the kind of outfit that’s pretty easy to re-create at all price points and to get similar pieces from a variety of stores. I’ll likely wear it again this spring or next fall (it would work well for nursing too!)

WhatIWore: Although it’ll end up being near 80 today, we slept with our windows open and woke up to 60 degrees. I am so desperate to be done with summer clothes - so I got dressed up for fall instead! Later I’ll probably change back into sandals and ditch the jacket (although it’s pretty light weight), but for now, it just feels good to wear dark colors.

When: August 22, 2016

What:
Shades: Prada (majorly discounted at a second hand store)
Jacket: Old Navy
Necklace: ModCloth (old)

Guess what else? I’m halfway through my pregnancy! We found out the baby’s gender last week and will reveal either this week or next!
