WhatIWore: Does it sound like I’m a broken record around here when I say how much I like repeating outfits? Yesterday I was doing some closet cleaning and found this skirt - which I’ve been looking for forever!! It’s nothing super special - just a jersey knit tube skirt, but it’s comfy and chic and goes with so much!

Sure - I could have remixed it with something new, but I was thinking back to this outfit and decided, what the hell, let’s copy it from head to toe. Granted, the main difference is that I wore it while 6 months pregnant! I bought my normal size and it fit me then and now.

When: May 8, 2017

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Jacket: Old Navy (similar here)
Black V Neck Tee: Old Navy
Stretchy Tube Skirt: Old Navy (in black here)
Booties: Rag + Bone

Where: Stroller Walk + Errands (I changed to sandals around 11:30)

All of these pieces are my go-to basics, and I do wear them lots of other ways. Coincidently, they’re all from the same store, but I didn’t buy any of them to wear together… it just happened that way!

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: Fun fact: In high school, I was the only girl in my senior class on the short list to win “Most Likely to be a Politician” which I took as a wonderful compliment (see also: most likely to be on the cover of a magazine and most talkative). I didn’t “win” any of them, but I’m 99.9% sure I’m the only one who’s made a career out of being a blogger. I still talk my husband’s ear off every night. As for politics, fifteen years later and it still excites me!

I am so grateful that women before me risked so much so that I might have an equal vote on election day. One hundred years ago WOMEN COULD NOT VOTE. And now we have a woman on the cusp of the highest office in government. I don’t take that for granted. I do my homework, I read the transcripts, I weigh my options, but most importantly, I vote!

I won’t tell you who to cast your ballot for (although I’m pretty sure you can guess who I’m supporting!), but I do encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote for the candidate that best reflects his or her views. Even if, like so many Americans, you’re over it. Please research your local elections and propositions as well - as these often have a much more direct impact on your daily life.

And for all of the social media pressure to wave your flag red or blue, remember that at the end of the day, your vote is yours and you don’t need to share who you’ve voted for or why with anyone else. You can change your mind back and forth all the way up until November 8th. You can split your ticket or vote in total opposition with your husband or parents or friends. Your vote is yours. Rock it.

When: November 1, 2016

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper Strength’
Lipstick: Bite Beauty in JAM
Tee Shirt: ModCloth
Jacket: Old Navy (older style, more options here)
Boyfriend Jeans: Old Navy via gift card, sized up
Bandana: craft store
Booties: LL Bean (style here, similar color here)

Where: Coffee Shop, atop my figurative soap box

On a sartorial note, nothing I’m wearing today is maternity! I didn’t expect these jeans to fit this far into my pregnancy, but shimmied down (and later unbuttoned) and they work fine. I do see the irony in wearing boyfriend jeans with a feminist tee shirt, but I like it!

What I Wore on Instagram

WhatIWore: I first started experimenting with soft, drappy pants last year. I made my first pair, which I loved in theory, but they didn’t end up being as comfortable as I’d hoped (the elastic hem was too tight, for example). When I saw these similar pants on a recent trip to Old Navy (our post sponsor!), I decided to give ‘em a chance and I love the way they look and feel! Here’s what I think you need to keep in mind when doing a jogger style pant to avoid looking like you’re out in your jammies…

When: May 8, 2015

What:
Shades: Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’
Tee: Old Navy via giftcard
Pants: Old Navy via giftcard (on mega sale right now!)
Bag: Lancel
Wedges: Rockport, gift

Where: Morning walk and coffee shop

On Styling Soft Pants:

1. Go fitted on top, especially if you’re bigger chested. You don’t necessarily need a highly structured top, but something that is fitted will balance out the proportion of looser fitting pants. If you’re smaller on top, you can get away with a little more of a relaxed style.

2. Add a little lift. A tappered hem plays well with a bit of a wedge to lengthen your look.

3. Do your hair and makeup. You’ll look styled for daytime (or evening if you add some funky jewelry) instead of sleepy time.

But don’t just take it from me, the reviews on this style from other shoppers are great too. I think I’d like to go back and get a blue toned pair as well, but I’ll probably size down. For reference I’m wearing a medium here and wore them lower on my hips rather than at the natural waist. The front has a flat waistband, but the back has elastic, which would make this style pregnancy or post partum friendly too!

A big thank you to Old Navy for sponsoring this post and inspiring me to try something different! Working with brands on What I Wore allow me to stay at home with my son and support my family.
