We’re calling him Tripod. He’s got a bum front leg.

I’ve been fascinated with foxes for a long time - but it wasn’t until the last week that I actually got a look at a real, live fox! The first time was in our backyard. I was so excited - just standing by the back door at dusk was… pause for dramatic effect - magical! I’ve always wanted to look a fox in the eye in the wild and this was pretty close!!

Yesterday morning, I saw him again down the road.

And then today… well, there he was again, likely turning in for the day after catching breakfast (if wildlife grosses you out, don’t scroll down). I had my camera in my lap so Adam turned the car around and these are the photos I got from my seat. I always hoped I’d get to see a fox this close up, but to get photos too?! Ahh!! Life dream = complete!!

Before I get any lectures, I know I know, foxes are wild animals and we’d never get close or let our children near!

My DIY | Felix the Fox

WhatIWore: Here’s another project I’ve recently knit up - a fox hat for Felix! Foxes are definitely my favorite animal… I dream of one day seeing one and making eye contact in the wild. Yes, I’m a weirdo. Whatever. One year I dressed up as a fox for Halloween and I also did a DIY smoking slipper with a fox applique. What does the fox say? Ooooowwwwwwwwweeeewwwww!

I found the pattern as a digital download on etsy and it really tested my patience for learning new skills. I ripped this one out a lot - at least three times for the intarsia and another three times for the ears. I’m giving myself an E for effort!

I used a DK weight yarn and both size 4 and 6 16″ round needles, plus size 6 double points as outlined by the pattern. I googled the hell out of how to do an intarsia too. I’m so determined to improve my knitting skills that I’m willing to try try again until I’ve learned the techique. It’s not perfect, but I’m happy with the result.

I finished the hat by using two different buttons - a smaller size for the eyes and a random larger black button for the nose.

Usually Felix will wear a hat for me, but he kept pulling this one off, making me think it’s too itchy for his sensitive skin. Bummer! Or maybe he’s just older and more grabby?

Also - Any Bloomington knitters out there? I’m hosting a little knitting circle on Monday night (November 9) at 6pm at Cardinal Spirits! Would love to see what you’re working on. Just bring yourself and your ID (21+)
