MoM | DIY Baby Leggings
WhatIWore: I never would have believed that dressing a baby boy could be so much fun! I love picking out different onesies and hoodies and socks and leggings when I get him dressed each day, often coordinating with my own outfit. I’ve bought him a couple of pairs of baby leggings and realized I could easily whip up a pair myself using women’s knee socks as the fabric! Here’s how I made these simple leggings in under a half hour:
Supplies:
- Women’s Knee Socks
- Scissors
- 1/2″ Elastic (about 10″)
- Needle and Thread (I used my sewing machine)
To start, cut the tubular portion of the sock from the foot, at around the ankle.
Next, turn the sock inside out and pin under 5/8″ to create a casing.
Stitch along edge, leaving a 1″ space unstitch to allow room to thread in your elastic. Be careful not to stitch through the back side of your
Cut elastic roughly the same size as your opening. You’ll want it to be just slightly smaller than the fabric opening, but not too tight for your baby’s comfort.
Thread elastic through casing using a safety pin.
Stitch elastic ends closed. I went back over this stitch line three times just so it’s extra sturdy!
Stitch closed remaining portion of casing and turn inside out!
The top of your sock will also be the top of the legging, so you’ll only need to put elastic into the bottom area that you’ve cut. That’s it! With so many novelty patterns think of all the possibilities!
